Felicity Esperanza
Our family welcomed Felicity Esperanza at 1:06 AM on January 11, 2025! Her name means “Happy Hope.”
She is a sign and a wonder of new life, joy, and hope pushing up from the ashes. She is one proof of the Lord’s triumph in our lives.
She is an unexpected and great blessing. It’s like the Lord is saying to us, “Even from a year that felt like there was little fruit and a lot of dead ends, I want you to know that you are so fruitful and this is a sign that I’m just getting started with you.”
As we searched for an appropriate middle name to go with Felicity, we had several ideas (and many suggestions from caring friends). We wanted something that had meaning and worked well in Spanish. Esperanza, which literally translates to hope, began to be a contender. Then, the Sunday before she was born, Drew Cranford, a guest worship pastor from Oklahoma, was preaching at our church from Hebrews 10.
As he read through the text, I teared up as he read verse 23: “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” (the pregnancy felt long and Heather was overdue)
I immediately texted it to Heather (who had stayed home, being too uncomfortably pregnant) along with The Passion Translation version: “So now wrap your heart tightly around the hope (Esperanza) that lives within us, knowing that God always keeps his promises!”
Heather is doing very well. We actually had Felicity at a nearby birthing center. Aspen stayed home taking care of the three boys for about 24 hours and Clementine and Juliana came along to witness the birth. Jen Hoover accompanied us as a doula - she was such a gift!! It was such a miraculous experience and we are thrilled beyond words. It’s an honor to be seven-figure parents!
Our friend Melanie Nofziger set up a “take them a meal” for us (https://takethemameal.com/OOYA3331) - We feel so loved and supported!
Of course, here are some pictures:
