Get Boxes

“Get Boxes.” It was a simple text from Heather only a month ago. But it set in motion the wheels of our move to our next home.

After almost 9 months since leaving the farm, our temporary home on the coffee plantation in San Isidro has come to an end. Our new home in Chahüites de Santa Barbara, Heredia welcomed us at the beginning of June. It’s just 8 minutes from our church (relieving us of the hour drive it was from our last place). And such a tranquil and beautiful place it its!

Here’s some back story.

May 1st, we were gearing up to host Alisa Lewis, Clementine’s friend from Pennsylvania, for the month of June. Frustrated with some aspects of our then living situation, Cleme had asked if it was ok to pray for a very specific request - like a new place to live by the end of the month, before welcoming her friend. I said, of course it was, although it was pretty unlikely that we’d be moving in under a month, with zero prospects. It would take a miracle… but she prayed.

On May 6th, some missionary friends texted us to see if we’d be interested in renting the house they’d been renting for the last seven years. Upon seeing the text, Heather and I felt instant relief and a budding excitement. It was as if we had stopped believing that God would provide a great affordable house that was close to our church. Turns out, He was about to!

And it’s all Clementine’s fault. ;)

Not only did we pack up and move in two weeks, but we had Alisa’s help for the week we moved and have continued to have her excellent help while we set it up our new home.

Surrounded by luscious green space and a nice view, no termites, no mold… we are so thankful! This house has four bedrooms, meaning the two older boys, the two older girls, and the two younger boys each have their own rooms, respectively. There are two functioning bathrooms and the house is nice and roomy, y’all! Once again, we can host, and we’re finally close enough to our church community to hold gatherings here, inside or out! It’s a real blessing.

It feels secure for our family. It’s retreat-like and has space to welcome others to enjoy meeting with the Lord. And though we can’t house six students for the Launch 61 Gap Year on this property, it’s a great place to build from. We’re dreaming about partnering with host families from the church or renting a nearby home to house students. Pray with us for the timing of this dream.

Love,

Dave, Heather, Aspen, Clementine, Louis, Juliana, Huxley, Caspian, and Felicity Helmuth
