Moving…Into The Apartment
Last night we moved into the apartment, our 6th home in our first six months in Costa Rica. Our four oldest children are now attending public school. We have found a home church. Ad Lib is growing. Staying the course, being diligent in prayer, waiting in faith, and taking wise steps...isn’t for the weak of heart!!
Our life is coming together in bits and pieces, like the now and the not yet. And like you, God is calling us to walk in greater measures of practical faith.
Measures like discerning the Lord's heart for our family's spiritual and relational growth, thinking of what churches, leaders, groups, or families to host, buying little things needed for our new apartment home, following promptings to contact potential lenders and donors, dreaming about what the Isaiah 61 Costa Rica ministry will be, determining the best financial structure for the ministry, asking the Lord for next steps to begin the ministry RIGHT WHERE WE ARE (even without a property), etc.
Here’s a quick list to further bring you up to speed on us.
In early January, we were blessed with an extra 3 weeks stay in Daryl and Jen Hoover’s home (while he recovered from sinus surgery in the States).
Upon the Hoovers return, on January 30th, we moved again (!) following an exceptionally gracious invitation to stay in the new, beautiful mountain home of some of our pastor friends. They so kindly only asked us to pay for utilities.
We have attended the same church (Monte de Dios in San Jose de la Montaña) for two months and are making it our home church here. Dave played on the worship team once and Aspen ran sound. The older two children have been enjoying getting to know the small youth group, and we have had several lovely visits with caring members of the worship team.
February 10th - the first day our oldest four kids stepped foot in an institutional school…and why not do it in another country with another language, just for fun?! The children are adjusting with exceptional ease to their new schooling experience. It is really helping their Spanish! Still, how quickly we as parents became aware of the new challenges (and opportunities) that came with this change. We are ever thankful for the Lord’s faithful leading, and are confident that He has our family in this place "for such a time as this". The elementary school is right down the street from the house we hope to buy. And Aspen's high school is just 10 minutes down the mountain from there. For the first 3 weeks of school, it was an hour’s drive, but the apartment is only 20 minutes away. PRAISE THE LORD!
Several months ago, we happily received the 20 boxes and 7 bikes that were safely shipped down in VidaNet’s bus… we are now very grateful for a "home" to unpack them in!
Daily, we’re feeling more at home here, but miss friends and family so much (especially with Heather’s 101-year-old grandmother passing on January 4th).
We’ve established our prayer team, 19 strong! Thank you, Jesus!
Thanks SO much for walking with us!
