Functional To Flourishing
I was talking with an audio coach in rural Illinois and we were reflecting on the realities that many churches don’t realize how far from their potential they have settled for, how they’ve grown accustomed to simply functioning on the lowest possible rung. The need to keep pressing ahead exists, but does the desire also exist? Do these sound familiar?
It’s not that bad.
He’s always late.
I’m always in a hurry.
It always sounds like that.
We always avoid that topic.
I never know what to really expect.
I’m used to being frustrated by that.
We always have to use that workaround.
Our congregation just doesn’t sing much.
I always “Sweetwater” my way into a corner. (meaning, I buy more gear hoping it’ll fix my audio problems)
Maybe you don’t even know how good it could be. Or at best, you’ve forgotten. You’re tired. You’re alone. Just scraping by is all you and your team can muster.
We’ve ALL been there!!
But what are we to do when going through the valley of the shadow of death? First, keep walking. But remember the next verse - I will not fear, for You are with me. In other words, you’re not alone.
There are so many ministries, organizations, companies, content creators, and everyday leaders that WANT to help. Sometimes I wish there was a vending machine you could go to to select the help you need at a given moment.
We all live with budget restraints, time and energy limits, culture cages, and tradition traps, but there’s always a way through to getting the help you need to flourish.
What would it take to help you and your team take one step past “functional” and move toward “flourishing”? Here are some ideas.
